Dr. Xu Cao is currently Lee Riley Professor and Co-Director, Center for Musculoskeletal Research, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Johns Hopkins University. He obtained his Ph.D. from University of South Carolina in 1991, where he learned chondrocyte-mediated mineralization. He spent 5 years for his postdoct training at Washington University in Dr. Steve Teitelbaum's lab. In 1996, he took an assistant professor position at University of Alabama at Birmingham and became full professor in 2004. His primary research interest is cell signaling and bone marrow stem cells.
