Mr Lam is currently a senior electronics engineer at the Medical Device Control Office (MDCO) of the Department of Health, the Government of the Hong Kong SAR looking after the operation, maintenance, planning and development of the Medical Devices Administration Control System in the office. He joined the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) of the Government in 1983 as an assistant electronics engineer responsible for handling general electronics projects and became a chartered electronics engineer in 1985. He was later deployed to the then Medical Electronics Division (now known as Health Sector Division) of EMSD for two separate periods since 1986. Up to now, he has over 16 years of substantial experience in biomedical engineering management services including procurement, operation and maintenance of a wide variety of biomedical equipment. During 1988-89, he was sponsored by the Government to attend a MSc course in Medical Physics at the University of Surrey, UK and was awarded the degree with distinction.
