Jetta Company Limited is a large original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in the toys industry. Since its establishment in 1977, Jetta has focused on manufacturing an extended range of toys and gifts products. Today, they have already evolved into one of the largest OEM manufacturers in the world, manufacturing both toy and non-toy products. Headquartered in Hong Kong, Jetta currently operates six major production bases in Guangdong, covering more than 2.5 million square feet of production floor space and employing a workforce of over 40,000 employees at peak.

Client's Needs

In order to achieve certification of ISO14000 Environmental Management System in the Panyu factory, the client needed to stop the direct discharge of wastewater at 3,000 m3/day into the surroundings.

Instead of just finding a solution to control the pollutants from wastewater discharged from the factory, HKPC convinced the client to treat the wastewater and recycle the treated effluent for gardening. With our guarantee of the excellent quality of the treated effluent, and without nuisance caused by the new wastewater treatment facility, the client decided to build the wastewater treatment facility next to the workers' dormitories, and construct a new garden together with an organic farm surrounding the wastewater treatment plant. The whole green zone would be for the workers' leisure and watered by the treated effluent.

Productivity Achievements

In this project, HKPC teamed up with a local partner to provide one-stop services to the client. While HKPC took up the overall responsibilities to design and build the wastewater treatment and recycling facilities, the local partner helped seek approval from the local Environmental Protection Bureau, modify the existing underground drainage, carry out the civil construction, source locally-made equipment, and provide labour for installing the equipment. This cost-effective combination of experience and expertise enabled the project cost to be significantly reduced to a level affordable to the client.

In the proposed wastewater treatment plant, HKPC employed the unique modular Biological Aeration Filter (SAF) technology to treat the highly polluted industrial wastewater discharged from the factory, as well as domestic sewage discharged from the canteens and dormitories, for up to 8,000 workers in the Panyu factory. HKPC's unique technology minimized the space occupied by the treatment plant and treated the wastewater to excellent quality. Both the product development and production cycle time were significantly reduced by 40%.
