The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) introduces a “Greener Lifestyle Campus” initiative for the education sector to support the government’s “I Love Hong Kong, I Love Green” campaign. The initiative aims to enhance students’ and teachers’ environmental awareness through the adoption of green facilities and technologies in the school campus.
Under the Greener Lifestyle Campus initiative, HKPC introduces a range of green facilities developed by its environmental experts. These include:
- In-situ Food Waste Conversion System – Leftovers from students' lunchboxes are a type of organic waste that decays easily. These food waste can be fed into the System and converted to fertilizers for gardening purposes.
- Greywater Recycling Membrane System – Greywater is part of domestic wastewater, which comes from sources like used water from washbasins, laundry and bathing water. Employing special biotechnology and membrane filtration techniques, this System can recover germ-free and odourless water for toilet flushing, gardening, etc.
- Indoor Air Disinfection System – This system is designed to effectively collect and kill bacteria/virus in ambient environment, and is particularly useful to help maintain a safe and healthy indoor environment. Each System is capable to disinfect an area of 1,000 – 1,500 sq feet, suitable for use in rooms which house many students e.g. school halls, common rooms and canteens.
Schools interested in the Greener Lifestyle Campus initiative could apply subsidy from the Environment and Conservation Fund to finance the installation of the green facilities.
