Merit and Demerit Points Systems
Merit System
The merit system is to encourage the Accredited Quality Seawater Suppliers and the Quality Seawater Logo Holder to fully comply with the requirements of accreditation. For a seawater supplier or logo holder who does not receive any demerit points throughout the whole year of accreditation, the renewal accreditation certificate in the next year will carry the remark of "Excellent Performance".

Demerit Points System
A demerit system is in place to remind the Accredited Quality Seawater Supplier/Quality Seawater Logo Holder the importance of maintaining the seawater system properly.

An Accredited Quality Seawater Supplier/Quality Seawater Logo Holder shall inform the Accrediting Body when analysis results such as those issued by government authorities on its seawater samples reveal the presence of Pathogenic Vibrio Cholerae, or that the concentration of E-coli exceeds 180cfu/100ml, and take appropriate corrective actions.

If non-compliance is revealed, a Corrective Action Form will be issued to the Accredited Quality Seawater Supplier/Quality Seawater Logo Holder. The seawater supplier/logo holder has to take remedial action and complete the Corrective Action Form within 6 weeks. In case remedial action is not completed within 6 weeks, 2 further demerit points will be given. If remedial action is still not completed thereafter, 2 more demerit points will be given for each of the following 4 weeks period until remedial action has been completed satisfactorily. If the demerit points accumulate to 10 or more within a period of 12 months, the accreditation status of such seawater supplier/logo holder will be suspended for a period of 6 months. Upon suspension of the accreditation status, the seawater supplier/logo holder must immediately cease to hold itself out in any way as an Accredited Quality Seawater Supplier/Quality Seawater Logo Holder and return the Certificate and the Quality Seawater Logo (if applicable) to the Accrediting Body within 2 weeks.

Upon the lapse of 6 months after suspension, the Accrediting Body may consider reinstating the accreditation status of a suspended Accredited Quality Seawater Supplier/Quality Seawater Logo Holder who can prove to its satisfaction that appropriate remedial actions have been taken and the corresponding Corrective Action Form has been completed and submitted.

The demerit points caused by any non-compliance incident are independent and only valid for a maximum of 12 months. Upon reinstatement of the accreditation status, all demerit points accumulated before suspension will be purged.
