Nature of Partnership:

HKPC is the implementation agent of a project which aims to help local electronics companies upgrade their current OEM production facilities to cater for ODM production.

Transform OEM to ODM – Using Knowledge Management tools to enhance Hong Kong electronics manufacturers' product design capabilities and speed up ODM development

February 2003 - October 2004

Details on the partnership:

This project comprises three stages:

• Stage one includes a benchmarking study to examine the critical success factors within the ODM industry.

• Stage two is to help OEM companies to develop ODM capabilities. During this stage, Knowledge Management (KM) tools (i.e. document management systems and workflow applications) have been developed to enhance manufacturers' product development processes. A total of five OEM companies have been selected as pilot companies to apply knowledge management tools to key business activities.

• Stage three includes project experience sharing with SMEs. All KM pilot project experiences and benchmarking results were compiled as a final report. A Knowledge Transfer Session was also held to disseminate the key findings and distribute final reports.
