Partnership Objective:
To promote the status and enhance the capabilities of local engineers in rehabilitation technology, clean room production, medical imaging technology as well as in surgery tools and clinical instrumentation development
Nature of Partnership:
HKPC is the implementation agent for the Biomedical Engineering Conference BME 2004 (September 2004), responsible for carrying out the project's major activities with the endorsement of the project applicant, the Biomedical Division of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE-BMD).

Details on the partnership:
The Biomedical Engineering Conference, co-organized by HKPC and HKIE-BMD, comprised of a two-day conference and a half-day technical visit. The event facilitated the exchange of state-of-the art knowledge in biomedical engineering and provided a platform for biomedical researchers, practitioners and industrialists to communicate on the latest advancement in biomedical technology and practices.
As one of the deliverables of the Hong Kong SAR Government's Professional Services Development Assistance Scheme (PSDAS) project, the Conference aimed to promote the status and enhance the capabilities of local engineers in rehabilitation technology, clean room production, medical imaging technology as well as in surgery tools and clinical instrumentation development.
In addition to the Conference, HKPC implemented a series of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminars on various Biomedical Engineering topics and formulated the Biomedical CPD Guideline as a reference for Biomedical Engineers on selecting relevant programmes for professional knowledge upgrading.

Officiating guests at the opening ceremony of the Biomedical Engineering Conference BME 2004 include Dr M Y Cheng, Deputy Director (Professional Services and Facilities Management), Hospital Authority; Ir James Kwan, President, The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers; Mr K K Yeung, Executive Director, Hong Kong Productivity Council; Mr C D Tam, Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation; Ir Roger Lai, Director, Electrical & Mechanical Services Department, Hong Kong SAR and Founding Member for BME Conference Series as well as other prestigious guests.
