Sample Size & Methodology:
A total of 143 companies (selected randomly from member companies of the FMM as well as other non-FMM members in related manufacturing industries) were successfully interviewed by telephone. In addition, face-to-face interviews were also conducted with seven leading companies to solicit more in-depth comments and opinions.

- On mould management, 27% of the respondents had no specific system to manage the process of mould operation. For those who had specific system to manage their mould operating process, 36% said that only part of their mould management systems were computerized, while 20% had almost computerized their systems. 17% of the companies relied on manual or paper records.
- A higher proportion of companies interviewed had made use of computer to enhance their efficiency in the following processes:
- mould design and drawing (63%)
- information related to its client and product (48%)
- task scheduling in mould development process (38%)
- identification/coding of mould design diagram and accessories (38%)- Majority (69%) of the respondents expected to benefit from computerization of their mould management systems. On the key benefits in adopting computerized mould management system, 'save time'(60%), 'engage less staff to manage'(32%) and 'enhance work efficiency and accuracy'(24%) were cited.
