Benchmarking Studies: Electrical Appliance Manufacturing Industry
Name of Survey:
Electrical Appliance Manufacturing Industry Benchmarking Study
Survey Background:
Benchmarking, which is a measure and comparison of operational efficiency across companies and industries, is recognized as a key corporate tool for boosting efficiency in the United States, Europe and other developed economies. However, few performance and operational statistics are available for Hong Kong industrialists to measure themselves against the industry (or leading companies) for the identification of areas for improvement. In recognition of such necessity, HKPC initiated a project to establish a benchmarking model for the electrical appliances manufacturing industry.
Survey Objectives:
To identify room for improvement for the industry
To meet the requirements of overseas buyers in OEM, ODM, OBM products selections
To enhance the industry's competitiveness in the global market
Organizer / Funded Organization / Supporting Organization:
This project was sponsored by the Innovation and Technology Fund of the Innovation and Technology Commission, the Hong Kong SAR Government, and supported by the Hong Kong Electrical Appliances Manufacturers Association. HKPC was the implementation agent.
Conducted Period:
August 1999 to September 2002
Sample Size & Methodology:
Three rounds of benchmarking studies with assessment for eleven local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) engaged in electrical appliances manufacturing industries were conducted.
