Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) are composed of the same element as diamonds (i.e. Carbon) but with a different structure, and possess extraordinary thermal, mechanical and electrical properties. Carbon nanotube metal matrix composites (CNT-MMC) is an emerging class of new material that is being developed for maximizing the properties of metals and CNTs with different usages.
Nano sol-gel is a process for making glass/ceramic or hybrid materials from a colloidal suspension of silica nano-particles (the colloidal “sol”) that is gelled to form a solid (the “gel”) phase. The sol-gel approach is important because it is relatively cheap as it is a low-temperature technique that allows for fine control on the coating. By adding different nanomaterials, in order to increase the nature and function of the coating, such as anti-fouling, anti-bacterial, anti-fingerprints, anti-corrosion and other functions. The applications for nano sol gel derived products are numerous, including optical coatings, protective and decorative coatings, and electro-optic components applied to glass, metal and other types of substrates. Sol gel can be applied by various simple coating methods such as dip coating, spin coating, spray, electrophoresis, inkjet printing roll coating.
