HKPC Welcomes Budget Proposals to Support Local SMEs

The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) fully supports the Financial Secretary's 2016-17 Budget proposals to allocate more resources to support local enterprises, in particular the small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to adopt technology to raise their long-term competitiveness.

Commenting on the Budget Speech, Mr Stanley Lau, Chairman of HKPC, said, “HKPC supports the Financial Secretary’s suggestions of applying the R&D results in the three areas of robotics, healthy ageing and smart city to boost economic development. In particular, HKPC welcomes the Pilot Technology Voucher Programme, and raising the level of cash rebate under the R&D Cash Rebate Scheme. These initiatives will boost SMEs’ application of technological services and solutions to improve productivity and upgrade or transform business processes, which are critical to their sustainable development. In addition, HKPC will continue to collaborate with the Government to promote the wider use of e-commerce, enhancing the operation efficiency of local industry and businesses.”

HKPC also welcomes the Government’s commitment to promote the use of electric vehicles and to strengthen charging facilities. The new initiatives to promote the reuse of retired batteries are also in line with the pursuit of green economy.
