Aqua Research Laboratory

Aqua Research Laboratory

The Aqua Research Laboratory, formerly known as Environmental Technology and Solution Center (ETS), was established in 2017 with an important commitment to facilitate the technology application in water engineering and environmental research and development, with collaboration with various industrial sectors and Government authorities (e.g. HKDSD, HKWSD, HKEPD). The laboratory is extensively equipped with a full range of standard equipment and analytical instruments for performing routine environmental analyses (such as pH (potential of hydrogen), DO (dissolved oxygen), COD (chemical oxygen demand), BOD (biochemical oxygen demand), nitrogen, phosphorus, hardness, conductivity, alkalinity, bacteriological analyses, etc.) and other physical, chemical and biological sample characterisation, which enable researchers to perform various analyses and experiments. The laboratory conducts research on a range of topics, including water quality, water treatment technologies, environmental monitoring and assessment, food waste and solid waste treatment, and ecosystem health.

The laboratory also has a strong focus on interdisciplinary research, collaborating with experts from a range of fields, including chemistry, biology, engineering, and environmental science. This interdisciplinary approach allows the laboratory to address complex environmental problems from multiple angles, developing innovative solutions that are both scientifically rigorous and technologically feasible. Our commitment to technological advancement and interdisciplinary collaboration has enabled us to make significant contributions to our understanding of water and the environment and to develop innovative solutions to some of the most pressing environmental challenges facing our planet today.
