Over 350 Hong Kong companies and organizations pledge to build a happy workplace culture and enhance the happiness-at-work level of the local workforce under the ‘Happiness-at-Work Promotional Scheme’ jointly organized by the Promoting Happiness Index Foundation (the Foundation) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC).
Now in its fifth year, the Scheme issues ‘Happy Company’ and ‘Happy Organisation’ labels to successful applicants. This year, there are 339 companies and 19 organizations under the two categories respectively to date. Among them, 76 companies and 10 organizations are also presented with the newly-created ‘Happy Company 5+’ and ‘Happy Organization 5+’ labels to commend their participation of the Scheme for five or more successive years.
Mr Gregory So, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government, today (24 April 2017) officiated the label presentation ceremony, accompanied by Dr Edward Chan, President; Dr Dennis Ng, Prof Roy Chung, Mr Irons Sze and Mr Johnny Yeung, Co-Chairmen of the Foundation; as well as Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC. Dr Ko Wing-Man, Secretary for Food and Health, also attended the ceremony to support the Scheme.
Dr Chan said, “Loyal and competent staff are the most precious asset of a company. In today’s highly competitive market environment, businesses must do more to attract and retain talent. Hence, building a happy workplace has become the goal of many companies. Apart from enhancing overall corporate image, being a ‘Happy Company’ or ‘Happy Organization’ can also motivate staff through the spreading of caring messages and help recruit more talents of high-calibre from a fiercely competitive market.”
Mrs Mak said, “It is encouraging that more and more companies and organizations are supporting the ‘Happiness-at-Work’ scheme and have applied the people-oriented management concept at their companies. This has given rise to many creative measures, enabling staff to enjoy healthy career while making a better balance amongst work, family and personal development. As one of the ‘Happy Organisations’, HKPC also strives to create a happy workplace and pay special attention to staff opinions and internal communications by urging staff from all departments and ranks to express their views through various communications platforms for improvement in communication sand work efficiency.”
Successful applicants of the ‘Happy Company’ and ‘Happy Organisation’ labels are required to implement measures or activities in at least two out of the four areas that enhance ‘Happiness-at-work’ in the past year. These include ‘Corporate Love’, ‘Corporate Insight’, ‘Corporate Fortitude’ and ‘Corporate Engagement’.
At the ceremony, there was a sharing session by three of the ‘Happy Company 5+’ label holders on ways in maintaining a joyous workplace. They included Chun Wo Development Holdings Limited, Jardine Aviation Services and Hong Yip Services Company Limited. Prizes were also presented to the winning organizations and individuals of the Happiness-at-Work photo and writing competitions
