HKPC and UL Strengthen Collaboration on Product Inspection Digitalisation

(Hong Kong, 24 September 2019) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) announced a new initiative to digitalise the inspection of products for certification – it has signed an agreement with the UL LLC (UL), a global safety certification company, in teaming up in the fields of artificial intelligence, Blockchain, cyber security, data analytics and Enterprise 4.0 technology applications and developments to incubate new solutions to enhance inspection processes and product authentication.

Witnessed by Mr Edward Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government, and Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Los Angeles in the United States on 20 September 2019 by Mr Mohamed Butt, Executive Director of HKPC, and Mr William Lin, Director, Field Engineering, Greater China Region of UL.

Mr Lin said, “HKPC is committed to finding novel solutions to help inspire transformation in different industries both locally and overseas. The latest collaboration will enable UL to apply smart technologies to digitalise its product inspection process, making it more cost-effective with improved accuracy, while its service users worldwide, including Hong Kong manufacturers, can enjoy less disruption to their operation with fewer inspection visits, achieving win-win for all.”

Under the MoU, HKPC and UL will jointly explore to establish and deploy proof-of-concept projects in three areas, namely, partnering Internet of Things (IoT) security with UL’s existing IoT security standard, adopting Inspection Process Digitalisation, and enhancing inspection scheduling and applying its data to manage productivity and inspection data analysis.
