HKPC to Launch "2020 Winter Internship" - Empowering Tertiary Students to Engage in R&D, Giving Impetus to Reindustrialisation

(Hong Kong, 12 October 2020) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), for the first time, will launch the “2020 Winter Internship” in December, following the conclusion of its annual Summer Internship programme. It aims to encourage local and overseas tertiary students to engage in technology research and development (R&D) after graduation. The programme not only creates hands-on experience and learning opportunities for students to equip themselves for future career, but also grooms the new generation of “Inno Talent” and gives impetus to Hong Kong’s technology and industrialisation initiatives. 

Mr Mohamed Butt, Executive Director of HKPC said, “Having accumulated more than 50 years’ experience in consultancy and future skill training, HKPC is obligated to take on social mission to nurture young tech talent and leaders for Hong Kong, as well as expand our pool of talent. Take, for example, HKPC has collaborated with local universities to offer various on-the-job training programmes for students to gain solid experience and explore career opportunities in research and development and technology industries, contributing to enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness. This time the ‘2020 Winter Internship’ programme, targeting local and overseas tertiary students, is designed to enable interns to acquire practical working experience, facilitating them to better map out their future career plan”.

Under HKPC’s “2020 Winter Internship”, interns will be deployed to seven Divisions, among others with different specialities. They include Automotive Platforms and Application Systems R&D Centre, Green Living and Innovation Division, Human Resources and Facility Management Division, HKPC Academy, Smart City Division, SME Engagement Division and Smart Manufacturing Division. 

Ms Eliza Ng, Chief People and Culture Officer of HKPC said, “It is a golden chance for the interns to obtain distinctive hands-on experience and opportunity for practicing. One of our interns, Miss Natalie Poon, who is majored in Biotechnology and Physiology at the University of Toronto in Canada, engaged in different R&D projects during the ‘2020 Summer Internship’. Through in-depth exchanges with experts, she could give into full play her capabilities and put into practice of what has been learnt”.

HKPC’s “2020 Winter Internship” will run for four to six weeks, spanning across December 2020 to January 2021, with about 30 vacancies. Local or overseas tertiary students who are interested in the programme can visit this website: https://winterintern.hkpc.org/recruitment_form and file an application on or before 16 October. Eligible candidates will be invited for online interview in early November. 

Besides, HKPC was recently awarded the “Approved Employer Accreditation – Professional Development” by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Mr Butt said, “We are honoured to be granted this award, serving as an accreditation for HKPC’s excellence in providing best-in-class training courses, and expanding the scope of career development for our staff. This award recognises our commitment of proactively upskilling HKPC workforce to drive creativity and productivity, also acknowledging our efforts in giving birth to the next generation of tech leaders”.
