HKPC Launches “Celesphere” Hong Kong’s First Technology Hall Themed in Industrial Metaverse Supporting Industries to Embrace Smart Manufacturing and Achieve New Industrialisation

(Hong Kong, 30 March 2023) To facilitate new industrialisation and digital economy development in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) launched “Celesphere” today to showcase the latest industrial metaverse application solutions, including technologies that have won numerous international research and development (R&D) awards, in continued effort to support industries to embrace smart manufacturing, achieve new industrialisation and promote digital economy.

Ms Rebecca PUN, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government, Hon Sunny TAN, Chairman of HKPC, and Mr Mohamed BUTT, Executive Director of HKPC, attended the grand opening ceremony of “Celesphere”.

As Hong Kong’s first technology hall themed in industrial metaverse, “Celesphere” is dedicated to combining metaverse, Industry 4.0 (i4.0), artificial intelligence and human-machine interface technologies to help enterprises optimise production processes and further integrate digitalisation as a core business strategy, accelerating the deep integration of digital economy and the real economy. “Celesphere” showcases various industrial metaverse application solutions, including “i4.0 Digital Lean in Metaverse for Virtualised Process Optimisation”, which has garnered prestigious international awards and recognitions from world-renowned professional bodies – being a finalist in both the 2022 R&D 100 Awards and the 2023 Edison Awards, and the winner of the Hong Kong Smart Living Partnership Awards 2022 (Metaverse category) for Outstanding Production Line Optimisation Solution.

The ceremony also featured HKPC’s brand new “Owl Production Line in Industrial Metaverse”. The solution applies “Digital Twin” technology and the concept of 3i Maturity Level in i4.0*, introducing physical production scenes into the virtual space in industrial metaverse. By using advanced i4.0, artificial intelligence and human-machine interface technologies in the processes of design, production, operation, training and optimisation, real-time integration of data exchange between physical and virtual production processes can be achieved, laying the foundation for the arrival of the intelligent factory in the near future.

Hon Sunny TAN, Chairman of HKPC, said, “The establishment of ‘Celesphere’ will further promote industrial metaverse applications and their adoption, and contribute to new industrialisation development. Through ‘Celesphere’, HKPC hopes to showcase industrial metaverse production line solutions and help enterprises achieve business and production processes optimisation, improve efficiency and reduce costs, and solve the pain points such as difficulty in recruiting talent and restrictions they faced because of time, space and location. HKPC will continue strengthening the collaboration among the government, industry, academic and research sectors, support the industry with advanced technology, FutureSkills training and government funding, promote and leverage advanced technologies such as the industrial metaverse application solutions, with the aim to enhance productivity and overall competitiveness of the industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Greater Bay Area.”
