(Hong Kong, 21 March, 2025) Life and health technology has been identified as a strategic emerging industry in the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint. The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has been actively responding to the national and HKSAR Government’s development strategies and is organising the Hong Kong Life and Health Industry Development Forum and Theme Hall Opening. The event will be officiated by Mr Ivan LEE, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government, along with other distinguished guests, and to celebrate the grand opening of the Life & Health Tech Hall. The Life & Health Tech Hall will be open to the public, showcasing innovative technologies and research achievements from local startups, and serve as a communication platform for industry collaboration and promote the implementation of innovations, assisting Hong Kong in becoming an international health and medical innovation hub.

Life and health technology stands as one of the core pillars of global technological innovation[1]. During the recent National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, it was emphasised that fostering and advancing future industries, such as biomanufacturing, is a strategic priority. HKSAR Government is also actively promoting the development of the life and health sector through a range of measures outlined in the 2025-26 Budget, developing New Productive Forces tailored to local conditions.

Mr Ivan LEE, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government stated: Global population ageing presents significant opportunities for the life and health technology industry. The HKSAR Government has been investing substantially to drive its development through various policies and funding schemes, leveraging Hong Kong’s unique advantages and attracting top research teams and enterprises to establish a thriving I&T ecosystem. As a key partner of both the Government and industries, the Hong Kong Productivity Council actively promotes New Productive Forces to support industrial upgrading. The ‘Life and Health Tech Hall’ showcases local advanced technologies and R&D achievements, to accelerate industrialisation and enhance industry standards, further facilitating Hong Kong as a global innovation hub for life and health technology.

Hon Sunny TAN, Chairman of Hong Kong Productivity Council stated: “Hong Kong boasts exceptional research capabilities in the field of life and health technology. The HKPC serves as a crucial link for transforming Hong Kong's cutting-edge research achievements into practical applications, fostering scalable growth. By empowering businesses through advanced technologies, including the use of artificial intelligence, robotics, and 3D printing, HKPC collaborates with the industry to achieve upgrading and transformation, accelerating industrialisation. The Life & Health Tech Hall will become an important milestone in building a thriving life and health technology ecosystem, promoting technological innovation and the integration of industry development, and fostering life and health technology as a new driving force for Hong Kong's economic growth."
