Manufacturing Technology (Tooling, Metals & Plastics) Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Mechanism

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) mechanism under the Qualifications Framework (QF) allows the related work experience and competencies acquired by practitioners at the workplace to be recognised. It offers practitioners another route to obtain QF-recognised qualifications, thus facilitates their subsequent progression in learning and career. The RPL mechanism is particularly useful for those practitioners who do not possess high academic attachment but have acquired substantial practical experience in industry.

The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) is the RPL Assessment Agency for the Manufacturing Technology (Tooling, Metals & Plastics) industry to provide practitioners with qualification certification services to recognise their knowledge, skills and experience acquired at their workplace.

The RPL in Manufacturing Technology industry consists of 60 qualifications from Level 1 to 4, covering the following six functional areas:

  • Marketing, Sales and Account Management
  • Product Design and Development
  • Process Design and Development
  • Procurement, logistics planning and monitoring
  • Product Manufacturing
  • Product quality monitoring and testing

Important Notice

From 15 March 2022, the document verification for RPL qualifications at QF levels 1 to 3 has been cancelled. Applicants are required to undergo assessment and pass it in order to obtain the certificate.

Application requirements and procedures:

Applicants who have successfully passed the PRL can apply for a 100% refund of the assessment fee after obtaining the Certificate of Qualification.
