HKPC Organizes Business Partnership Seminar for the Automotive Parts Industry in Guangzhou

Following the success of its auto parts industry seminar recently held in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), in collaboration with the Economic Commission of Guangzhou Municipality, PRC, today (21 March 2005) organized a business partnering seminar in Guangzhou to foster technology transfer and partnership among the automotive parts industries from the Mainland, Hong Kong and Mexico.

The opening ceremony of the event was officiated by Ms Sally Ye, Director, External Cooperation Division, Economic Commission of Guangzhou Municipality, PRC and Mr Alex Sun, General Manager, Productivity (Guangzhou) Consulting Co., Ltd. a subsidiary of HKPC. Over 100 participants including 27 members of the Mexican Automotive Parts Industry Delegation attended the seminar.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Sun said, “The automotive industry is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Chinese national economy. It is estimated that total sales of motor vehicles will increase from 5.1 million units in 2004 to over 6 million units by 2007.”

“This prosperous market will create immense opportunities for the automotive parts industry. Backed by its technological expertise and experience in international business, the Hong Kong automotive industry is well positioned to become the valued strategic partner for Mainland and overseas companies,” he said.

“Bringing together government officials and industry leaders from Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Mexico, this seminar provides a platform for information exchange and business partnership,” Mr Sun said.

According to Mr Sun, the business matching seminars and the Mexican Automotive Parts Industry Delegation’s visit to Hong Kong and Guangdong are HKPC’s latest initiatives to support the development of the Hong Kong automotive parts industry. Over the year, more than 300 local industrialists and executives have participated in HKPC’s study missions to major automotive centres throughout the Mainland to forge partnership with leading industry players and Government organizations.

During their stay in Guangdong, the Mexican Delegation will meet with government officials and visit auto parts manufacturing plants and industrial parks in the Pearl River Delta region.

Speakers at the seminar also included the representatives from the Guangzhou Automobile Incorporation and Guangzhou Toyota.
