Over 270 Companies and Organizations Vow to Build a Happy Workplace Culture

Over 270 companies and organizations in Hong Kong pledge to foster a happy workplace culture and raise the happiness-at-work level of the local workforce.

They participated in the 'Happiness-at-Work Promotional Scheme', jointly organized by the Promoting Happiness Index Foundation (the Foundation) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC). Now in its third year, the Scheme issues 'Happy Company' and 'Happy Organisation' labels to successful applicants. This year, there are 247 companies and 25 organizations under the two categories respectively to date.

Mr Stephen Sui, Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the HKSAR Government, officiated at the 'Happiness-at-Work Label' presentation ceremony today (3 June 2015), accompanied by Dr Edward Chan, President; Dr Dennis Ng, Chairman; Prof Roy Chung and Mr Johnny Yeung, Vice Chairman; Dr Allen Shi and Mr Samson Chan, Honorary President of the Foundation; Dr Clement Chen, Chairman, and Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC.

Dr Chan, President of the Foundation, said, "As work occupies a large part of the life of people in Hong Kong, whether we are happy at work significantly affects the overall happiness level of Hong Kong. Building a 'Happy Hong Kong' relies heavily on the active support of each employer. With more companies and organizations joining the Scheme, it will trigger a snowball effect in spreading this positive energy."

Dr Chen, Chairman of HKPC, said, "Building a happy workplace is an investment rather than an expenditure for businesses. Happy employees are more dedicated, proactive, innovative, and are ready to deliver quality services. They will bring good business results, creating win-wins for all. Through the Scheme, more companies can join the 'Happiness-at-Work' family by incorporating people-oriented management concepts and building a caring corporate culture."

Successful applicants of the 'Happy Company' and 'Happy Organisation' labels must have implemented measures or activities in at least two out of the four areas that affect 'Happiness-at-work' in the past year. These include 'Corporate Love', 'Corporate Insight', 'Corporate Fortitude' and 'Corporate Engagement'.

At the ceremony, there was also a sharing session by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited and the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers Association on ways in building a joyous workplace. Prizes were also presented to the winning organizations and individuals of the Happiness-at-Work photo and video competition.

The 'Happiness-at-work Promotional Scheme 2015' is open for application until the end of August. For more details, please visit www.hkworkhappiness.com; or contact HKPC's Henry Ding at tel.: (852) 2788 6042 or email: henryding@hkpc.org.
