HKPC Sets up “RoboticsOne” to Boost Smart Production

The rapid development of industrial robots has triggered more diversified applications. To help Hong Kong enterprises adopt this advanced technology to lift efficiency and competitiveness, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today (12 November 2015) opened the first one-stop robotics application support centre in Hong Kong – “RoboticsOne”. Offering consultancy service, technology demonstration, robotics solutions development and training under one roof, RoboticsOne can facilitate industries to take the fast track to intelligent manufacturing.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr Nicholas Yang, Advisor to the Chief Executive on Innovation and Technology; Ms Annie Choi, the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government; Mr Stanley Lau, Chairman of HKPC; and Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC.

Mr Lau said, “Facing labour shortages and demands for ‘high-variety, low-volume’ production, in addition to automation, manufacturers should adopt more flexible and efficient production management models in order to quickly respond to the changing markets. To enable enterprises to understand the benefits of industrial robots and prepare for the development of ‘Industry 4.0’, HKPC sets up ‘RoboticsOne’ to demonstrate the smart integration of engineering design, production, and enterprise management into a highly automated system. Enterprises can see for themselves the swift and economical solutions for the production of varied specifications and quantities.”

With the watch, and the intimate apparel industries as pilot users, “RoboticsOne” features various applications of industrial robots, including 3D grinding and polishing, 3D laser cutting, as well as the application of intelligent vision and artificial intelligence in automated production. In addition, robotics application in the service sector is on display - the “Tai Chi Simulator”. Programmed to mimic nine Tai Chi movements automatically, it can support users to practise Tai Chi individually and is applicable for the elderly market.

Apart from hardware, the Centre is equipped with simplified robotics programming software to convert 3D CAD (computer-aided design) data and direct robots to perform production tasks, thus significantly increases flexibility.

Located at the HKPC Building, “RoboticsOne” is open from 10am to 6pm, Mondays to Fridays.
