HKPC Welcomes CE's Plan to Promote Innovation & Technology

The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) welcomes the package of initiatives announced in the Chief Executive's 2016 Policy Address today (13 January 2016) to promote innovation and technology, which will offer a new growth engine for the economic development of Hong Kong.

Mr Stanley Lau, Chairman of HKPC, said, "Innovation and technological capabilities define the competitive edge of enterprises. The Policy Address proposes to inject resources in applied R&D, which will provide a major boost to the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong. Enterprises should also develop high value-added business and abandon the old mode of operation that relies on a low-cost competition strategy. HKPC will continue to support local enterprises in industrial upgrading and transformation, embarking on 're-industrialisation' to lift their competitiveness."

Mr Lau said, "HKPC will fully support the Innovation and Technology Bureau to assist Hong Kong enterprises to relocate high value-added production and processes to Hong Kong, embracing 're-industrialization' to foster the balanced development of the economy."

To assist local enterprises to move towards high value-added production, HKPC has stepped up its industry support and introduced various new initiatives recently. These include promoting the application of 3D printing, robotics and conformal cooling technologies; as well as the introduction of software and mobile application testing to support industries in the development of high value and innovative products and services.
