APAS R&D Centre Showcases Locally-developed IoV and New Energy Vehicle Technologies

With a wider use of “Internet of Vehicles” (IoV) technologies being anticipated under the global trend of smart cities, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) will continue to develop more advanced automobile technologies and establish new collaboration platforms to support local enterprises in seizing opportunities in the smart and green transport markets, says Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC.

Mr Lin was addressing the “Automotive Parts and Accessory Systems (APAS) R&D Centre Showcase 2017” held today (21 July 2017) at HKPC, which hosted the Centre. The Showcase was opened by Miss Annie Choi, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government. Other officiating guests included Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC, and Mr Dave Ho, Acting Assistant Director (Air Policy) of Environment Protection Department.

Mr Lin said, “The Mainland IoV market is estimated to value more than RMB 250 billion in the next three years. With the launch of the 5th generation mobile telecommunications technology which would better address technical demands of IoV, we can expect a wider use of IoV to follow.”

The Showcase comprised a technical seminar and an exhibition of APAS R&D Centre’s latest R&D results, including the debut display of the first locally-developed wireless electric vehicle (EV) charger; and a smart vehicle-to-home (V2H) system for EVs. Other exhibits included a new generation MOST150 infotainment system for hi-speed passenger trains; close-up monitoring system for train; and various EV charging solutions.

To help Hong Kong enterprises tap the Mainland IoV market, HKPC has teamed up with local industry associations to organize study missions to IoV demonstration sites and major IoV suppliers in the Mainland to develop collaboration networks. It also worked closely with industry partners to promote the development of IoV industry in Hong Kong. In addition, apart from smart automobile systems, APAS R&D Centre has developed EV critical technologies and charging solutions for Hong Kong companies to seize green transportation opportunities.
