429 Companies & Organisations Commit to Building a Happy Workplace

429 companies and organisations in Hong Kong have vowed to create a happy workplace culture and raise the happiness-at-work level of their workforce under the ‘Happiness-at-Work Promotional Scheme’, jointly organised by the Promoting Happiness Index Foundation (the Foundation) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC).

Now in its sixth year, the Scheme issues ‘Happy Company’ and ‘Happy Organisation’ labels to successful applicants. To date, 410 companies and 19 organizations applied for the labels this year. Among them, 106 companies and 13 organisations are also awarded the ‘Happy Company 5+’ and ‘Happy Organisation 5+’ labels for their participation of the Scheme for five or more successive years.

Mr Michael Wong, Secretary for Development of the HKSAR Government, officiated at the 2018 label presentation ceremony today (27 April 2018), accompanied by the Foundation’s President, Dr Edward Chan; Co-Chairmen, Dr Dennis Ng, Mr Irons Sze and Mr Johnny Yeung; Chief Executive Officer (Honorary), Dr Helen Chan; Honorary Presidents, Dr Allen Shi and Mr Samson Chan; and HKPC Executive Director, Mr Mohamed D. Butt.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Chan said, “We are delighted to see a lot of new faces in the audience. Many of them are first timers to the scheme and SMEs, with less than 100 employees. It can be seen that the implementation of happiness-at-work measures is not limited to large companies.”

Mr Butt said, “With the Scheme now in its sixth year, we are happy that more and more companies and organizations acknowledge the happiness-at-work concept and different sectors are joining hands to raise the work happiness of people in Hong Kong. As a ‘Happy Organisation’, HKPC strives to build a pleasant and friendly workplace environment for its staff.”

Successful applicants of the ‘Happy Company’ and ‘Happy Organisation’ labels must have implemented measures or activities in at least two out of the four areas that enhance ‘Happiness-at-work’ in the past year. These include ‘Corporate Love’, ‘Corporate Insight’, ‘Corporate Fortitude’ and ‘Corporate Engagement’.

At the ceremony, there was a sharing session by three of the ‘Happy Company’ label holders – Conrad Hong Kong, Bossini Enterprises Limited and FSE Engineering Group Limited, on ways in maintaining a joyous workplace. Prizes were also presented to the winning organisations and individuals of the Happiness-at-Work drawing, photo and video competitions.

The ‘Happiness-at-work Promotional Scheme 2018’ is still open for application until the end of August. For more details, please visit www.hkworkhappiness.com; or contact HKPC’s Daisy Leung at tel.: (852) 2788 6171 or email: daisyleung@hkpc.org.
