HKPC at InnoCarnival 2018: Smart City for the Betterment of Living

(Hong Kong, 1 November 2018) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) will stage a HKPC Pavilion at the "InnoCarnival" for the eighth consecutive years to showcase various latest homegrown applied R&D technologies and artificial intelligence (A.I.) applications, developed in the realm of smart city. This will allow the public to sample for themselves the application of smart technologies in daily life.

Under the theme of "Smart City for the Betterment of Living", the HKPC Pavilion will feature various interactive exhibits in the areas of "Smart Living", "Smart Environment", "Smart Mobility" and "Smart Economy". Visitors can take a sip of Hong Kong-style milk tea made by the A.I. robot "KamChAI"; or apply the "Smart Wedding Ring-fitting System" to measure their best-fit ring size with 3D Scanning and 3D Printing technologies. They can also operate a simulated "Smart Farm", a new farming platform that integrates the Internet of Things, Image Processing, and Big Data Analysis for real-time monitoring and enhanced yield.

With the growing popularity of personalised products among consumers in recent years, "Industry 4.0" (i4.0), advocating digital manufacturing, becomes a global hot topic. The Smart Factory model inside the HKPC Pavilion will illustrate the concept and key elements of i4.0, whilst visitors can learn about the importance of cybersecurity in i4.0 with the aids of a robot that is fitted with a cybersecurity system by comparing its performances under normal operation and cyber attacks.

Various advanced "Smart Mobility" technologies will also be on display, for example, the HKPC-developed "Smart Street Lamp Monitoring System" that uses the LoRa (Long Range Low Power Wide Area Network) technology. This system can achieve real-time monitoring of street lamps' operation and quicken their maintenance, enhancing municipal management. Visitors can also visit the Pavilion of HKPC's Automotive Parts & Accessory Systems R&D Centre (APAS) to have a glimpse of Hong Kong's first autonomous ready R&D platform vehicle to understand the future mode of transportation.

In addition, HKPC will host "Inno Space" workshops during the weekends for visitors to design and build their own robot. Definitely a precious hands-on experience!

Organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission, "InnoCarnival 2018" will be staged at the Hong Kong Science Park in Shatin from 3 to 11 November. Come visit the HKPC Pavilion (D04, 1/F, Lakeside Two, East Wing, Phase 2) and APAS Pavilion (B14, Atrium Link) from 10am to 6pm for weekdays, and until 7pm for weekends.
