HKPC Extends Maternity and Paternity Leaves for New Parents

(Hong Kong, 12 November 2018) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) announced the extension of its paid maternity leave from 10 weeks to 14 weeks, and paid paternity leave from 3 days to 5 days for eligible staff members with effect from 8 November 2018.

Mr Mohamed D. Butt, Executive Director of HKPC, said, "We embrace the joy of a new family member's arrival together with our employees. We hope employees can cope with the change better through this enhanced arrangement. HKPC aims to give new parents more time to adjust to their new role and look after their newborn babies, so that they can have a prolonged period to make the appropriate preparation before returning to work."

HKPC is committed to promoting holistic well-being and work life balance for its staff members. It was one of the first government funded bodies to introduce the 3-day paternity leave in 2009. Other family-friendly practices include the provision of a lactation room for breastfeeding female employees, and Staff Recreation Club to organise various social, sport and recreational activities. In addition, HKPC regularly reviews and updates its staff policy to continuously fine-tune its manpower development strategy to suit the needs of its staff.
