HKPC and MTR Pledge to Build Smart Railways for Hong Kong

(Hong Kong, 27 May, 2019) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the MTR Corporation (MTR) have signed an agreement to join forces for the development of smart railway solutions to enhance the quality of service for Hong Kong commuters and in support of the HKSAR Government’s drive to expedite the implementation of the Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong.

Mr Mohamed Butt, Executive Director of HKPC, and Mr Adi Lau, Operations Director of MTR, signed the Memorandum of Understanding today, heralding the start of a new chapter in smart mobility innovation in Hong Kong. Under the arrangement, HKPC and MTR will collaborate and work as partner in the design and development of Smart Operating and Maintenance Solutions in relation to the MTR system, leveraging HKPC’s technologies, knowhow and other facilities; in the realm of digitalisation, image processing and mobile robot.

Mr Mohamed Butt said, “This collaboration aims to foster the development of Smart Railways in our community. HKPC provides support and technologies for its design and development. This facilitates our mission to explore resources optimisation opportunities to assist local enterprises in enhancing and maintaining their competitive edge, cost efficiency and assisting their businesses to transform into Smart Living and Smart Mobility.”

Leveraging on the expertise and innovative ideas of HKPC, I’m confident that we could work together to constantly improve operational safety and reliability, and take our quality of customer service up a notch smartly,” said Mr Adi Lau, Operations Director of MTR Corporation.
