Seven HKPC Homegrown Inventions Shine Hong Kong with Eight Accolades

(Hong Kong, 23 January 2020) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) recently received recognition for its homegrown innovative inventions with 7 inventions winning 8 awards among 3 local and international exhibitions and competitions, taken HKPC to new heights.

HKPC’s Decentralised Food Waste Recycling Station won the Gold Medal and IFIA Best Invention Award in the 2nd Asia Exhibition of Inventions Hong Kong. This innovative system can fully convert organic fraction of food waste into products or materials that have market value, including high purity biogas, protein-rich eco fish feed and materials for biodiesel production. It is expected to be deployed by local restaurants for converting food waste into useful resources soon to alleviate the pressure on landfills.

Both the “MiniMover”, equipped with a series of sensors enabling it to perform short-haul delivery tasks in crowded and complex environment; and the “Defect Recognition Support System for Aviation Industry”, a system that can identify external defects of an aircraft through computing algorithms for compensating insufficiency of visual inspection, took home Silver Medals in the 2nd Asia Exhibition of Inventions Hong Kong.

HKPC further stole the limelight in the 2019 Hong Kong Awards for Industries, with its Smart Production for Chow Tai Fook winning the Smart Productivity Award; as well as “KamChAI”, a Hong Kong-style milk tea making robot, and the High Pressure Food Disinfection Processor, which can extend 10 times of product shelf life, winning the Equipment and Machinery Design Certificate of Merits respectively.

Last but not least, the “Robot System for the Placement and Collection of Traffic Cones and Lanterns in Road Works” was also awarded the Construction Safety 2nd Prize in the CIC Construction Innovation Award 2019. With its development initiated by the Highways Department (HyD) of the HKSAR Government, the system co-invented and successfully built by the HyD and HKPC is the first of its kind in the world fitted with cameras, sensors and robotic arms to understand its surroundings with full cognitive abilities for placing and collecting traffic cones and lanterns on public roads.
