(Hong Kong, 9 March 2021) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), in conjunction with ten local information security bodies, opened the “Information Security Summit 2021” today, under the theme of “Challenge of Securing the New Norm: the Remote, Mobile, Decentralised and Virtual Business”.
Taking a hybrid mode with on-site and online guests for the first time, this two-day event aims to help enterprises grasp the latest development trend and technologies of information security to cope with the COVID-19-triggered security threats, and devise effective security strategies for the new normal and new technologies.
The opening ceremony today was officiated by Mr Alfred Sit, Secretary for Innovation and Technology, and Mr Victor Lam, Government Chief Information Officer of the HKSAR Government, along with Mr Willy Lin, Chairman, and Mr Mohamed Butt, Executive Director of HKPC, as well as Mr Dale Johnstone, Chairman of Organising Committee of “Information Security Summit 2021”.
In his welcoming remarks, Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC, said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has brought upon unprecedented challenges to all and has changed the way we live, work and socialise. It caused a surge in demand for digital solutions such as remote work, e-learning, online shopping, tele-medicine. Most organisations made a quick transition to remote working and a more intense focus on serving customers through digital channels. However, the digital response to the COVID-19 crisis with the growing use of technologies over the Internet has given cyber criminals the opportunity to deliver more intensive attacks and created new security threats. The need to adopt more advanced cyber security technologies and practices has become more pressing than ever in the post-pandemic era.”
Mr Lin continued, “To tackle the evolving cyber threat facing organisations today, business leaders should quickly put in place an effective and advanced cyber security strategy to ensure smart interventions in key areas of vulnerability to boost overall cyber security in the new normal. HKPC and its Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT) have been stepping up their efforts for years to promote higher cyber security awareness and provide effective solutions and advices for the industry to realise cyber security measures. We sincerely hope that security guidelines and information focusing on remote access, web-meeting, and enterprise VPN from HKCERT in the past 12 months could give enterprises useful and practical tips in developing and implementing effective cyber security strategy to cope with the sophisticated attacks in this digital era.”
The two-day summit is a convergence of local and overseas information security experts, plus representatives from renowned multinational corporations who would share the latest cyber security knowledge. Aside from covering the latest cyber security management and technical theories, applications and practical experiences relating to 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), data analytics, AI and machine learning, discussion would also centre on cyber risks amid the epidemic. Besides, a series of cyber security related workshops will be held from March to May 2021, keeping industry practitioners abreast of the latest security technologies and solutions for elevating the cyber security level. In addition to organising the large-scale Information Security Summit, HKPC and HKCERT are lining up various new initiatives and services to help Hong Kong companies to cope with the new normal. These include monitoring security posture and providing actionable advice through security health scoring, promoting the SaaS Cloud Security Guideline, offering a secure authentication service platform for software developers, etc.
