HKPC Attains Outstanding Achievements at the 2023 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions Garnering 28 Awards With 4 Projects Receiving the Highest Accolade of Gold Medal with Congratulations of Jury

(Hong Kong, 29 April 2023) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) was once again recognised for its outstanding research and development (R&D) achievements by the international innovation and technology (I&T) community, winning 28 awards for innovation at the 2023 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, including 4 Gold Medals with Congratulations of Jury - the highest accolade, 2 Gold Medals, 7 Silver Medals and 15 Bronze Medals. Among the recognised R&D projects, 75% have been applied in practice, enabling partners to address industry pain points and seize further business opportunities, amid charting Hong Kong in bolstering Hong Kong to be an international I&T centre and a smart city.

As the world embarks on the road to recovery, this year's Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions took place from 26 to 30 April at the Palexpo Exhibition Centre in Geneva, attracting over 1,000 projects from over 40 countries and regions, with approximately 290 projects from Hong Kong teams, making the competition fierce. At the exhibition, HKPC showcased a range of innovative R&D results to the judges and visitors, including “Intelligent Fault Catcher" & “Virtualised Manufacturing in the Metaverse”, etc., which attracted extensive attention for being both innovative and practical. Among the projects submitted by Hong Kong R&D teams this year, a total of 28 projects won the Gold Medal with Congratulations of Jury, with HKPC's "High Mast Inspection Robot", "Microwave-assisted System for Bio-diesel Extraction from Animal Waste", "Rapid One-step Plastic Metallisation Technology" and “Waterless Platinum Electroplating Process" being 4 of them, attaining this top glory.

Hon Sunny TAN, Chairman of HKPC, said, “After achieving one silver and two bronze accolades recently at the 2023 Edison Awards for the first time, we are delighted that HKPC's applied R&D continued to stand out this year with a total of 28 awards garnered at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions. This is an encouraging result that demonstrates the strength and achievements of Hong Kong in technological innovation and R&D and affirms our position in the international arena. HKPC will continue working hard to support the HKSAR Government's policy objectives and relevant I&T development initiatives, promote the development of new industrialisation, green technology and artificial intelligence in Hong Kong, and create an atmosphere of I&T development in the community, so that more research outcomes can be realised in Hong Kong, bringing its I&T development to new heights, thereby accelerating Hong Kong’s development as an international I&T centre.”

Mr Mohamed BUTT, Executive Director of HKPC, said, “We are extremely honoured to have once again received accolades and recognition from an international jury of experts. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our team for their innovation and dedication in research aimed at addressing industry pain points, as well as the trust of our corporate clients in us, which has enabled our R&D achievements to continue shining on the global stage. Going forward, we will constantly enhance our R&D and innovation capabilities, promote synergy among the Government, industry, academic and research sectors, facilitate the development of key technologies and more research outcomes into applications, advance Hong Kong's I&T progress actively, and continue telling the good stories of Hong Kong's I&T development.”
