HKPC Commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the Establishment of the People's Republic of China

(Hong Kong, 1 October 2024) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) commemorates today the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China. President XI Jinping, at a reception held in Beijing on 30 Sep marking this important occasion, emphasised the crucial need to fully uphold the "One Country, Two Systems" policy, and to foster Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability. This underscores the nation's strong support for Hong Kong. The country is entering a new stage in achieving high-quality development through innovation and technology (I&T). Hong Kong will fully leverage its unique advantages under "One Country, Two Systems," seizing the fresh opportunities presented by the country’s development, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) development, and the “Belt and Road Initiative“. By advancing new industrialisation and fostering new productive forces, Hong Kong is well-positioned to better integrate into the country's overall development.

Hon Sunny TAN, Chairman of HKPC, said, “We take immense pride in our country's remarkable achievements and are deeply grateful for the central government’s unwavering support of Hong Kong. At HKPC, we remain committed to following national development goals, fully supporting the HKSAR Government, and upholding the spirit of 'Innovation Reshapes Everything'. Our mission is to facilitate the transformation of traditional industries toward higher-end, smarter, and greener practices, while empowering emerging industries such as microelectronics, smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence, new energy, and biotechnology. HKPC is actively promoting the optimisation and upgrading of industrial and supply chains. These efforts enhance competitiveness, strengthen the I&T environment for young talent, and accelerate Hong Kong's development as an international I&T centre. Our initiatives also contribute to the growth of new productive forces in Hong Kong and the entire GBA, thereby supporting the country's high-quality development."

As a market-oriented R&D institution, HKPC is committed to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in enhancing their competitiveness through advanced technology, talent training, and Government funding programmes. To date, nearly 1,400 smart projects have been carried out in Hong Kong and other GBA cities. This year, HKPC unvailed the “Future Manufacturing Hall” to showcase Hong Kong's strengths in innovative technologies through successful case studies, helping enterprises achieve new industrialisation, strengthen the "Made in Hong Kong" brand advantage, and promote the development of new productive forces. HKPC continues to deepen cooperation with local, Mainland and international universities and R&D institutions. This year, HKPC jointly established the Beijing-Hong Kong R&D Acceleration Centre with the Zhongguancun Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Innovation Centre, and the "Hong Kong-Yangtze River Delta Joint Innovation Centre" with the Yangtze River Delta National Technology Innovation Center. These initiatives enhance the complementary advantages of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Yangtze River Delta, and GBA, supporting more high-tech enterprises nationwide to leverage Hong Kong's strengths and expand globally.

HKPC recently conducted an in-depth analysis of over 1,000 successful cases of enterprise upgrading and transformation in Hong Kong and GBA, culminating in the release of the "Hong Kong Manufacturing Industries Development Study Report". This report summarises three main directions and 10 measures to promote new industrialisation and guide companies towards developing new productive forces.

Addressing the pain points of SMEs, HKPC fully supports their development with six key initiatives: "Biz Expands Easy," "SME ReachOut," "Digital DIY," HKPC Academy, Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre, and "ESG One". HKPC is dedicated to nurturing and aggregating I&T talent, ensuring that SMEs thrive in an increasingly competitive landscape.

In the future, HKPC will continue to promote synergy among the Government, industry, academia, research institutions, and professional communities. We aim to deepen both domestic and international technological cooperation, actively participate in major national scientific and technological projects, support the development of strategic emerging industries, and enhance the collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative. Through these efforts, we strive to contribute to Hong Kong’s long-term prosperity and stability and the country's journey towards Chinese-style modernisation.
