(Hong Kong, 7 August 2025) – Lalamove, the leading on-demand delivery platform, has teamed up with the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) through its Centre of Advanced Power and Autonomous Systems (APAS), supported by the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF), to launch an “AI-Driven Driving Behavior Prediction System” (the system). This cutting-edge solution, which will soon be integrated into Lalamove’s mobile apps, leverages AI to enhance road safety by identifying and reducing risky driving behaviors—ushering in a new era of smart mobility for drivers and the wider community.
AI-Powered Safety for Smarter Mobility
Designed with machine learning, sensor technology, and cloud computing, the system functions seamlessly without interfering with driver operations. It also includes a cloud-based inference engine for backend analysis. The system not only visualises driving behaviors and provides real-time feedback but also features a data dashboard for management use, aiding in risk identification and decision support, perfectly aligning with Lalamove's daily operational needs.
The system leverages real-time driving data from mobile sensors to detect high-risk behaviors, including harsh acceleration, harsh braking, frequent lane switching, and mobile phone use while driving. The project encompasses several key phases: extensive data collection, meticulous data labeling and training, development of an AI model, and rigorous verification of prediction accuracy. These efforts culminate in a robust driving behavior scoring system that promotes safer driving practices. This ongoing training, combined with continuous monitoring through the AI system, ensures that improvements in driving habits are achieved sustainably and respectfully, minimising any sense of excessive surveillance.
Mr Yonghai DU, Chief Innovation Officer of HKPC and General Manager of APAS, highlighted the project’s broader impact, “HKPC is delighted to support Lalamove in this milestone initiative. By integrating our expertise in autonomous systems and AI-driven solutions, we are confident that this partnership will set new standards for road safety and smart mobility. This project not only showcases the power of innovation but also underscores our commitment to fostering sustainable and safer driving practices in Hong Kong.”
“Our partnership with HKPC reflects our deep commitment to safety and innovation in logistics through sustained investments in technology. By leveraging AI technology, we enhance real-time driving analytics, enabling us to proactively mitigate risks and offer safer deliveries. This initiative not only enhances road safety but also strengthens user confidence, while creating better income opportunities for driver partners and advancing the platform economy.” said Mr Bill LI, Director of Corporate Affairs at Lalamove.
As the technical lead, APAS under HKPC played a pivotal role in optimising the system’s machine learning algorithms for precise behavior detection, ensuring seamless mobile integration, and refining backend performance. The project not only elevates safety benchmarks locally but also establishes a replicable framework for Lalamove’s operations across 14 markets in Asia, Latin America, and EMEA.
A New Chapter for Smart Logistics
This collaboration marks a significant leap in merging local innovation with global logistics needs, demonstrating how public-private partnerships can leverage AI for societal benefit. By advancing both road safety and operational efficiency, HKPC and Lalamove are shaping a future where technology drives meaningful progress for drivers, businesses, and communities alike.
