(Hong Kong, 23 April 2026) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today announced that its Executive Director, Mr. Mohamed D. Butt, MH, will conclude his tenure with the Council upon the completion of his current contract on 17 December 2026. Mr. Butt has served in this pivotal role since 2017, guiding HKPC through a period of profound transformation and growth.

During his tenure, Mr. Butt has led HKPC through a dynamic era marked by unprecedented challenges and opportunities. As the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) intensified its focus on innovation and technology, and as the global technology landscape evolved at an extraordinary pace, Mr. Butt’s visionary leadership ensured that HKPC remained at the forefront of industrial advancement and societal impact.

Drawing on his extensive global experience, Mr. Butt brought a strategic and global perspective to HKPC, deepening collaboration with international partners and counterparts in the Chinese Mainland. His leadership sharpened the Council’s business agility and market responsiveness, strengthened its long-term capabilities, and positioned it to deliver meaningful impact on both industry and society. He also played a key role in building strong, collaborative relationships with government bodies across the Chinese Mainland.

Under his stewardship, HKPC has emerged as a robust, well-governed, result-oriented, financially stable, and high-performing world-class organisation—capable of adapting swiftly to a rapidly changing global landscape. Over this period, the organisation has significantly strengthened its financial sustainability and capacity for long-term impact. Equally important has been his commitment to people and talent development, including the cultivation of a truly international workforce and the accelerated growth of I&T talent to support Hong Kong’s evolving innovation ecosystem. The strong foundation he has laid will continue to support HKPC’s mission to drive innovation and New Productive Forces for the benefit of Hong Kong and beyond.

Reflecting on his journey, Mr. Butt said: “I am immensely proud of the dedication and commitment of my team. I am deeply grateful to the HKSAR Government, past and present Chairmen and Council Members, my colleagues and all stakeholders for their unwavering support in implementing groundbreaking initiatives that have elevated HKPC to new heights.

Hon. Sunny Tan, Chairman of HKPC, expressed heartfelt appreciation for Mr. Butt’s contributions: “Mohamed has not only strengthened HKPC’s reputation and global standing but has also significantly elevated our profile across Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, and the international stage. His leadership has laid a strong, future-ready foundation for the Council. On behalf of the Council, I extend our deepest gratitude and wish him every success in his future endeavours. We are confident that HKPC will continue to grow and thrive, building upon the legacy he has so proudly created.
