HKPC Participates in the Future Industries Zone at the 2026 Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) Showcasing Marine and Quantum Technology Innovations to Drive the Development of Future Industries

(Hong Kong, 13 October 2026) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) is participating in the Future Industries Zone at the 2026 Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition), between 13 and 16 October. Under the theme “Future Marine & Quantum Technologies”, HKPC is showcasing a range of cutting-edge marine and quantum technology innovations and application solutions. The National 15th Five-Year Plan clearly supports Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation and technology centre and indicates the marine economy and quantum technology as key strategic development areas. The Hong Kong SAR Government’s Hong Kong’s First Five-Year Plan and the latest Policy Address also emphasise the development of strategic emerging industries and future industries, while promoting collaboration among industry, academia and research sectors to foster new growth drivers including the marine economy and quantum technologies.

Marine technology and the marine economy are regarded as important new growth engines for high-quality development, while quantum technology represents a strategic future industry for forward-looking deployment. In alignment with national and HKSAR Government strategies for marine economic development, HKPC established Hong Kong’s first Hong Kong Industrial Technology Centre for Marine Economy (MARTEC, National Engineering Research Centre Hong Kong Branch) (formerly Marine Eco-Tech Innovation Hong Kong Branch) last year. MARTEC focuses on advancing marine technology R&D in areas including marine inspection and monitoring, marine ecological conservation, marine new energy and intelligent equipment, as well as the sustainable development of fisheries and marine renewable resources. HKPC is also actively driving the convergence of advanced quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, leveraging hybrid quantum-classical computing to address critical challenges faced by industries such as manufacturing, logistics, materials and finance.

Mr Yonghai DU, Chief Innovation Officer of HKPC and Director of Hong Kong Industrial Technology Centre for Marine Economy, said, “The marine economy and quantum technology are important future industries in both the national and Hong Kong development agenda, and key directions for fostering new productive forces. With Hong Kong’s strategic position as an international maritime centre, deep integration with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’s modern industrial ecosystem, and world-class research capabilities, it is uniquely positioned to transform ‘marine technology’ and the ‘blue economy’ into new engines of high-quality development. HKPC has been actively promoting marine technology innovation, technology transfer and industrial applications. As smart ocean and marine technology continue to advance, the marine economy will become a new driver of Hong Kong’s high-quality development. Looking ahead, HKPC will continue strengthening collaboration with Greater Bay Area and international partners, accelerate the commercialisation of research outcomes, and support Hong Kong in becoming an important centre supporting the nation’s strategy of building a maritime powerhouse.”

Innovative Marine and Quantum Technologies Take Centre Stage
During the fair, Mr Kevin CHOI, JP, Permanent Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, visited HKPC’s “Future Marine & Quantum Technologies” Pavilion to learn about it’s latest R&D achievements and exchange views on the development of future industries.

HKPC is showcasing a series of marine and quantum technology innovations that demonstrate the potential of future technologies in driving industrial upgrading and nurturing new economic growth drivers. Key exhibits include:

Marine Technology and Marine Economy

  • AquaShield Intelligence: Integrates real-time monitoring via solar-powered buoys with cloud-based AI and machine learning to detect water quality deterioration and abnormal trends, trigger timely preventive actions and early interventions, mitigate risks, and deliver 24/7 protection for local aquaculture.
  • Tank Genie: Shortlisted as a finalist in the 2026 R&D 100 Awards, Tank Genie is an ultra-compact water tank cleaning robot that has already been deployed across multiple property-management applications and is now being extended to tank-cleaning applications in fish farms and aquaculture facilities. Through remote operation, simultaneous high-pressure cleaning and wastewater/sludge extraction, and digital monitoring and recording, the system reduces the need for workers to enter confined or contaminated spaces, while improving cleaning efficiency and occupational safety and helping the industry maintain a more stable water environment for aquaculture.
  • High Efficient Modularised Propeller System For Small-Size Eletric Vessels: A high-efficient all-electric propulsion solution specifically designed for small vessels, offering advantages such as zero emissions, low noise, and high energy efficiency. It can be widely applied in recreational activities, nearshore fishing (saving up to 85% in fuel costs), search and rescue, marine tourism, and commercial use. The system helps drive the electrification transformation of the shipping industry, providing sustainable power for oceanic economy and green shipping development.
  • Multi-client Wi-Fi Connectivity and Stability Testing System: Ports, container terminals, and near-shore operations rely on high-capacity Wi Fi networks to support large numbers of connected devices. HKPC developed an automated Wi-Fi testing platform that can coordinate up to 250 test clients through a single interface, performing simultaneous connectivity and performance tests while automatically collecting and analysing data. The system improves testing efficiency and consistency, enabling reliable evaluation of Wi Fi performance in high-density environments.

Quantum Technology

  • Hybrid Quantum-Classical Computing R&D Project: HKPC is developing a Hybrid Quantum-Classical Computing framework and algorithms specifically designed for workshop production scheduling in manufacturing and logistics routing optimisation. By integrating Quantum Computing with traditional high-performance computing, the framework empowers enterprises to address complex decision-making problems rapidly and optimise decisions in production scheduling, fleet dispatching, and resource allocation. The framework and algorithms are currently being validated on superconducting quantum computers. In the future, it is expected to enhance operational efficiency, resource utilisation, and competitiveness in the manufacturing and logistics industries, and to drive practical applications of Quantum Technology to industries.
  • R&D of Quantum Computing Materials and Processing Technologies: Leveraging its R&D strengths in Smart Manufacturing and advanced materials, and in response to industry pain points, HKPC will further invest in the R&D of key materials and advanced processing technologies for Quantum Computing, including material and process optimisation for extending the coherence time of superconducting qubits, controllable fabrication technology for high-quality graphene quantum dots in telecommunication bands, and fabrication technology for single-photon-emitting perovskite quantum dots. HKPC is committed to providing industry with more advanced, more efficient, and mass-producible new materials and technologies.
  • Quantum Technology Education and Training: To nurture Quantum Technology talent in Hong Kong and promote public understanding of quantum knowledge, HKPC plans to launch a series of Quantum Technology-related activities, including public exhibitions featuring Quantum Technology, Quantum Technology courses and study missions for industry professionals, and international conferences with global experts, scholars, and industry leaders. These initiatives aim to promote the widespread dissemination of Quantum Technology knowledge across industries and its practical application. In addition, by utilising advanced Quantum Computing experimental platforms, core concepts of Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Computing could be explained through interactive demonstrations, and participants can gain hands-on experience by operating real quantum computers through programming practice.

“Marine Milestones and Future Marine Technology Summit”
To promote industry collaboration and marine technology development, HKPC is also organising the “Marine Milestones and Future Marine Technology Summit” on 15 October. During the event, HKPC will announce the key achievements and development roadmap of MARTEC on its first anniversary, while bringing together experts and industry leaders to explore opportunities and future directions for Hong Kong’s marine economy.
