Hong Kong and Shenzhen Jointly Organize Hong Kong-PRD Industrial Promotion Gala Dinner

Over 1,000 industrial leaders, manufacturers and senior government officials from Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta (PRD) today (12 November 2004) attended the Hong Kong-PRD Industrial Promotion Gala Dinner held in the city of Shenzhen, China, with an aim to promote economic and industrial development and foster collaboration between Hong Kong and the PRD.

The event was jointly organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI), and Shenzhen Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment, in conjunction with the HKSAR Government's Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong, The Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Export Credit Insurance Corporation, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, PRD Council and the Shenzhen Bureau of Trade and Industry. Supporting organizations of the event included more than 40 industry associations.

Officiating guests at the Gala Dinner included Mr Li Hongzhong, Mayor of Shenzhen Municipal People's Government; the Hon Donald Tsang, Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR Government; the Hon Andrew Leung, Honorary Chairman of the Gala Dinner Organizing Committee and Chairman of HKPC; Mr Kenneth Ting, Chairman of Organizing Committee and FHKI; Mr Cliff Sun, Executive Chairman of Organizing Committee; and Mr Zhang Guoliang, Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Director of Wen Wei Po Limited.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Leung said, "Shenzhen is a strategic partner of Hong Kong. Over the past two decades, the two cities have been collaborating closely in areas spanning manufacturing, services, logistics and infrastructure developments, powering the economic growth of the entire PRD."

"With the implementation of CEPA and the establishment of the Pan-PRD regional co-operation platform, Hong Kong and Shenzhen will enter a new phase of collaboration for the mutual benefits of both cities. The Hong Kong-PRD Industrial Promotion Gala Dinner offers a timely opportunity to strengthen the ties between enterprises in the region," he said.

Since 2002, the Hong Kong-PRD Industrial Promotion Gala Dinner has been an annual networking event for enterprises in Hong Kong and the PRD. Held in different cities in the PRD, previous events have been staged in Dongguang and Foshan in the Guangdong Province.
