2005 Hong Kong Awards for Industries Invites Entries from Local Manufacturing and Service Companies with Outstanding Performance

Hong Kong companies in the manufacturing and services sectors are invited to submit entries for the 2005 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI) for the seven categories of awards, namely, consumer product design, machinery and equipment design, customer service, environmental performance, innovation and creativity, productivity and quality, as well as technological achievement.

This is a landmark year for the Scheme as the former Hong Kong Awards for Industry has been merged with the Hong Kong Awards for Services into the "Hong Kong Awards for Industries". The Hong Kong Awards for Industries will continue to recognise outstanding achievements and performance excellence of enterprises in both the manufacturing and services sectors. This is the only Awards Scheme of its kind supported by the Hong Kong SAR Government.

Each of the seven categories of the Awards Scheme has its leading organiser. The leading organisers are respectively: Consumer Product Design category - the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, Machinery and Equipment Design category - The Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong, Customer Service category -the Hong Kong Retail Management Association, Environmental Performance category - the Business Environment Council, Innovation and Creativity category - the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, Productivity and Quality category - the Hong Kong Productivity Council, and Technological Achievement category - the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. Representatives from each of the organiser form the organising committee of the Awards Scheme which is chaired by the Director-General of Trade and Industry.

For each category, the organiser forms its own judging panel by drawing on experts in the relevant area and makes recommendations to the Final Judging Panel for consideration for the award winners. There are only one Grand Award and a number of second-tier Awards and Certificates of Merit in each category.

An awards presentation ceremony, to be officiated by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, will be held on 27 February 2006 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Entry forms and brochures are now available from the respective leading organisers. The closing date for entries is 31 August 2005.
