Guangdong Environmental Protection Bureau Chief Visits HKPC

The General Director of Guangdong Environmental Protection Bureau, Mr Li Qing, led a 13-member delegation to the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today (20 July 2005), and was briefed on HKPC's role in promoting environmental management and its services to help industry comply with international environmental standards.

Addressing the delegation, The Hon. Andrew Leung, Chairman of HKPC, said, "The visit has provided an ideal opportunity for the exchange of ideas between HKPC, the Guangdong Environmental Protection Bureau, as well as Municipal Environmental Protection Bureaus in Guangdong on collaboration in green manufacturing and environmental awareness training programmes. We are confident that such experience sharing will help to open up new horizons for co-operation between Hong Kong and Guangdong."

Apart from senior officials from the Guangdong Environmental Protection Bureau, the delegation also included senior officials from the Environmental Protection Bureaus in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Dongguan, Zhongshan and Foshan.

During the visit, Mr Leung also briefed the delegation on HKPC's environmental services. He said, "As early as 1980, HKPC has been offering a wide array of environmental services to assist industry to adopt advanced environmental technologies, promote environmental management systems, and comply with local, Mainland and international environmental regulations. We also support the growth of the local environmental industry through technology transfer."

In his presentation, Mr K L Tsang, Technology Services Manager (Environmental Management) of HKPC, briefed the delegation on the Council's solutions to assist industry to tackle pollution problems through the applications of advanced environmental technologies, as well as joint technology research and development projects with Mainland partners. On-site technology demonstrations were conducted to highlight the Council's works in wastewater treatment for construction sites and electro-plating processes, as well as its indoor air disinfection system to improve air quality.

Joining the delegation's visit to HKPC were the Hon. James Tien, Chairman of Liberal Party, and five members of the Party.
