HKPC & CityU Organize Technology Transfer Forum on Advances in Proactive and Intelligent Maintenance Techniques

Over 170 representatives from the local business community were presented with the latest updates on intelligent maintenance machinery and systems developed by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) at a forum jointly organized by CityU and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today (13 January 2005).

Under the theme of "Advances in Proactive and Intelligent Maintenance Techniques", the forum is the fourth in a series held under the "CityU Technology Transfer Forum" programme, which aims to offer a platform for technology transfer and collaboration between the academics and local industry.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr Stephen Lee, Director, Product Productivity, HKPC said, "Over the years, advances in IT and telecommunications, wireless technologies and other innovative methodologies have made significant impact to local industry, giving rise to a new generation of machinery and manufacturing systems which are intelligent, environmentally friendly and providing more efficient modes of operation across all industry sectors."

"Through today's forum, we aim to offer an opportunity for such advanced technologies in intelligent machinery and maintenance techniques to be transferred from the academics to industrialists, and at the same time, establish ties and collaboration with industry for sustainable development," he said.

Other officiating guests at the opening ceremony included Mr H Y Wong, Director, Technology Transfer Office, CityU and Ir Dr Greg C Y Wong, Vice President, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.

Forum speakers included Prof Michael Yau Yan Hung, Head of the Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Management, CityU; Dr Peter Wai Tat Tse, Associate Professor, Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Management, CityU; and Mr Wilson Kum Wing Chung, Executive Committee Member, Graphic Arts Association of Hong Kong. Among the topics covered were "Recent Advances in Inspection and Health Monitoring of Building Structures", "Smart Ear for Effective and Cost Saving Maintenance (Smart Asset Maintenance System)" and "Intelligent Color Printing Quality Enhancement System (ICPS) for Printing Machine Maintenance & Test Form".
