HKPC Organizes Study Missions for Automotive and Environmental Management Industries

To assist local manufacturers to tap business opportunities in the Mainland automotive market, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) will organize a study mission to Changchun from 1 to 6 September 2005.

Mr Joseph Poon, General Manager (CEPA Business Development & IP) of HKPC, said, "Dubbed 'the automobile city of China', Changchun is also a leading R&D base for the optoelectronics industries. During this study mission, participants will meet with Changchun's automotive industry leaders to explore cooperation opportunities and exchange information on automotive technologies."

Focusing on automotive electronics, optoelectronics, auto parts and automobile production, the study mission will visit factories and testing centres of automobiles and auto parts, including the China First Automotive Works Group Corporation and the Automotive Engineering Institute of Jilin University. The delegation will also visit the First Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo in Changchun to explore collaboration opportunities with business partners in Northeastern China.

In another study mission organized by HKPC to the UK from 11 to 19 October 2005, local manufacturers will be able to get the latest update on the "EN14181 - Stationary Source Emissions - Quality Assurance of Automated Measuring Systems (AMS)".

Mr Eric Ching, Principal Consultant (Productivity Training Institute) of HKPC, said, "Regulators around the world are becoming increasingly punitive with enterprises that emit pollutant to the environment. It is utterly important for factories to monitor their emissions to ensure legal limits are not exceeded."

"Indeed a new European quality assurance standard, known as 'EN14181 - Stationary Source Emissions - Quality Assurance of Automated Measuring Systems (AMS)', requires emitters such as factories and power plants to have Continuous Emission Monitoring (CEM) Systems. This standard is being progressively implemented in the EU, and similar requirements are expected in Hong Kong soon," he said.

"This study mission will prepare local professionals in the maintenance and calibration of CEM systems, environmental engineers and consultants, as well as suppliers, engineers and operators of CEM systems for the implementation of the standard," Mr Ching said.

During the trip, participants will also attend the Environmental Monitoring & Certification Conference (MCERTS 2005) for the latest update on EN14181 and the procedures involved. There will also be visits to factories that are already implementing the standard.
