HKSAR's Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology Visits HKPC

The Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, HKSAR Government, Mr John Tsang visited the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) on Tuesday, 11 January 2005, and was briefed by the Council's Executive Director, Mr K K Yeung on HKPC's strategic plan and initiatives, as well as its special research and development (R&D) foci in addressing the changing needs of industry.

During the visit, Mr Tsang was briefed by Mr Yeung on HKPC's five-year strategic plan launched in 2004 to meet the changing needs of industry as well as the Council's expanded services along the value chain and the establishment of subsidiaries in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan in 2004 to provide integrated support to Hong Kong companies in the Pearl River Delta.

In his presentation, Mr Yeung also highlighted HKPC's recent Expressions of Interest to the Government in hosting R&D Centres in the areas of advanced manufacturing technologies, automotive parts and accessory systems, as well as logistics/supply chain management enabling technologies to provide further support for Hong Kong industry.

Mr Tsang also visited HKPC's Centres of Excellence, including the CEPA Business Development Centre, Advanced Electronics Processing Technology Centre, Hong Kong Watch & Clock Technology Centre, Plastics Technology Centre, and Hong Kong Automotive Technology & Knowledge Centre. On-site technology and service demonstrations by HKPC consultants were conducted to highlight the Council's works in raising local industry's capabilities in manufacturing and management, product quality and overall competitiveness in the international markets.
