Jiangxi, Guangzhou and Hong Kong Software Sectors Collaborate to Promote the Development of the Software Industry

Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation (HKITF) and the Guangzhou Tianhe Software Park (GDSP), PRC, in October 2003, the two parties, together with the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) recently signed a MOU with the Jiangxi Jinlu Software Park (JJSP), PRC, at the 4th Pan-PRD Regional Cooperation IT Department Directors Joint Conference in the presence of the ministers of the "9+2" Pan-PRD Region in Nanchang, PRC, to foster co-operation and information exchange between software sectors in Jiangxi, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

The signing ceremony was officiated by Dr Song Xiao Gang, Foreign Economic Relations & Trade Department, GDSP, PRC; Mr Zeng Guang Hui, Deputy Secretary & Deputy Director, The Administrative Committee of Nanchang High-tech Industry Development Zone, PRC; Mr Daniel Ng, President, HKITF and Mr K T Yung, General Manager (Information Technology Industry Development), HKPC, in the presence of Mr Ling Cheng Xing, Vice Governor of Jiangxi, PRC; Mr Lou Qin Jian, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Information Industry (MII), PRC, and representatives from the MII.

According to Mr K T Yung, under the MOU, the HKPC, HKITF, GDSP and JJSP will jointly develop and establish an information-sharing platform linking Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Jiangxi software sectors, based on the on-line IT Solution Directory jointly developed by the HKITF and HKPC, organize software development forums, trade fairs, technical seminars and training, as well as launch a newsletter to facilitate information exchange and business partnership between Jiangxi, Guangzhou and Hong Kong software sectors.

In addition, the four parties will jointly set up a task force in Jiangxi, Guangzhou and Hong Kong to hold regular meetings to monitor the status of progress on matters related to the collaboration agreement.

Mr Daniel Ng, President of HKITF, said, "The implementation of CEPA and the Pan-Pearl River Delta (Pan-PRD) Regional Cooperation Framework Agreement has further strengthened partnership among Jiangxi, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The software sectors are in the best position to leverage on these new business opportunities."

"Through this collaboration, we hope to provide a platform for synergy building and information exchange among software sectors in Jiangxi, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. With partners from the HKPC, GDSP and JJSP, the collaboration will integrate the IT resources in the Pan-PRD region, strengthening our competitiveness in the international market," Mr Ng said.
