Solid State Lighting and Illumination Technologies Brighten up Industry Prospects

Professionals in the automotive lighting and illumination industry will be updated on the business potential and applications of the emerging Solid State Lighting (SSL) and other illumination technologies at a Symposium organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) on 26 September 2005.

The "International Symposium on Solid State Lighting, LED and Illumination Design" aims to introduce the latest developments and applications of illumination technologies, and the business opportunities for local manufacturers.

Mr L M Li, General Manager (Manufacturing Technology) of HKPC, said, "Characterized by its reliability, brightness and efficiency, SSL technology has revolutionized the lighting industry. It is widely applicable in different products including mobile phones, digital TV and projector illumination units, signs and display units, as well as automotive lighting components, such as headlamps, tail lamps and light pipes. SSL and the advanced light emitting diode (LED) technology has opened up new possibilities in general lighting application."

"To meet the need for compliance with international standards, the enabling illumination design technology is also crucial for the development of high value-added lighting products," Mr Li added.

Industry experts from the USA, Spain, the Mainland, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong will present the latest updates on the market trend and technologies. Manufacturers, engineers, designers and professionals in the illumination technology and automotive lighting industries are welcome to participate.

The Symposium is part of the Optical CAE Technology for Automotive Lighting and Illumination Parts Development Project funded by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government under the Guangdong-Hong Kong Technology Cooperation Funding Scheme.
