79 Companies Honoured at 2005 Hong Kong Awards for Industries Presentation

Seventy-nine companies were honoured today (27 February 2006) at the 2005 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI) Awards Presentation Ceremony officiated by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, the Honourable Donald Tsang.

The Hong Kong Awards for Industries was officially launched in 2005 by merging the former Hong Kong Awards for Industry and Hong Kong Awards for Services, established in 1989 and 1997 respectively, to rationalise and update the two awards schemes. The merged Awards Scheme continues to recognise the outstanding achievements of Hong Kong enterprises in their move towards higher technology and higher value-added activities.

The Awards Scheme covers seven categories, including the consumer product design category organised by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries; machinery and equipment design category organised by the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong; customer service category organised by the Hong Kong Retail Management Association; environmental performance category organised by the Business Environment Council; innovation and creativity category organised by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce; productivity and quality category organised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council; and technological achievement category organised by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation.

A total of 319 entries were received, covering a wide range of industrial and business sectors. The Grand Award winners are: IDT Electronic Products Limited (Consumer Product Design Grand Award), Dunwell Engineering Company Limited (Machinery and Equipment Design Grand Award), HSBC Direct Financial Services (Customer Service Grand Award), Neonlite Electronic & Lighting (H.K.) Limited (Environmental Performance Grand Award), Jing Mei Automotive Limited (Productivity and Quality Grand Award) and WowWee Limited (Technological Achievement Grand Award). No Grand Award winner was selected for the Innovation and Creativity category in the 2005 Awards Scheme.

The judging process in each award category was carried out by the individual judging panels. The winning companies were endorsed at a joint judging session led by Prof Poon Chung-kwong, Chairman of the Final Judging Panels.

This year's Award Scheme was supported by 25 sponsors, contributing a total of HK$1.965 million.
