Automotive Study Mission Explores Business Opportunities in the Yangtze River Region

To assist local manufacturers to tap automotive opportunities in the Yangtze River region of the Mainland, the Hong Kong Critical Components Manufacturers Association (HKCCMA) will organize a study mission to Nanjing for 7-11 May 2006. The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) is the implementation agent of the event.

Mr Frank Leung, General Manager (Electronics Product Innovation) of HKPC, said, "The Yangtze River Economic Belt, which includes Shanghai, Chongqing, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan and Yunnan, accounts for 40% of the Mainland economy. The capital of the Jiangsu Province, Nanjing, has emerged as an important manufacturing base in China, with the production capacity for automobile components ranking the third in the country. There is ample opportunity for collaboration between Hong Kong and Nanjing industrialists."

"The study mission will focus on automotive electronics, optoelectronics, auto parts and automobile production, in particular, and explore opportunities in technology and business partnership between Hong Kong companies and their Mainland counterparts," he said.

During their visit, the Delegation will meet with Government officials and visit auto parts manufacturing plants, testing centres of automobiles and auto parts, as well as the industrial zones and research institutes in Nanjing, including the Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NJST). The Delegation will also participate in the "Forum on Productivity Development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt" to be held in Nanjing on 9 May 2006, with speakers including Mr K K Yeung, Executive Director of HKPC, and industry experts from the region.

"In addition, during their stay in Nanjing, the Delegation will be able to get the latest update on the Membrane Bioreactor and the Power Line Communication R&D projects, jointly conducted by the NJST and HKPC, at a briefing session organized by the two parties," Mr Leung said.

The study mission to Nanjing is HKPC's latest initiatives to support the development of the Hong Kong automotive parts industry. Over the year, more than 300 local industrialists and executives have participated in HKPC's study missions to major automotive centres throughout the Mainland to forge partnership with leading industry players and Government organizations.
