Conference Presents Advanced Development in Mobile Television

Over 400 representatives from the local telecommunications and media industries attended the "Mobile TV Conference" today (15 November 2006) to obtain the latest market and technological updates on Mobile TV, a nascent industry at the intersection of telecoms and media which offers new opportunities for device-makers, content producers and mobile operators.

Supported by the Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau (CITB) of the HKSAR Government, the Conference was jointly organized by the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA), the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the Hong Kong Wireless Development Centre (HKWDC). Officiating guests at the Conference included Mr John Chiu, Chairman of WTIA and Mrs Marion Lai, Deputy Secretary of CITB.

Speaking at the Conference, Mr Chiu said, "Mobile technology has seen tremendous development over recent years with mobile TV being one of the key driving forces. Integrating the functions of broadcasting, multimedia and interactivity, mobile TV opens a whole new platform for unprecedented business opportunities. To end users, the technology enables infotainment delivered to them ubiquitously."

"Mobile TV opens up a new opportunity for marketers to deliver their message personally to the consumers. Industry players of telecommunications, media and broadcasting will be able to expand their business opportunities with this new platform," Mr Chiu said.

Addressing the Conference were international and local experts including keynote speaker Mr Dominic Strowbridge, Marketing Director of BT Movio (UK). Other speakers included Mr Juha Lipiainen, Director, Mobile TV Business Development, Multimedia Business Group, China Area, Nokia; Ms Chiaren Cushing, Manager, Business Development, Qualcomm Inc; Dr Tony Seeto, Business Development Director, Hong Kong CSL Limited; and Mr Ian Chapman-Banks, Vice President, Motorola Asia Pacific and General Manager, Marketing and Business Development, North Asia, Mobile Devices, Motorola, Inc, China.
