Eco-driving Seminars Promote Environmental Awareness Among Local Drivers

To promote environmental awareness among local drivers, the Environmental Protection Department and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of the HKSAR Government, Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), the Hong Kong Automobile Association, the Hong Kong School of Motoring and the Service Managers Association will jointly organize a series of free seminars on eco-driving.

Mr K L Tsang, General Manager (Environmental Management) of HKPC, said, "Vehicle emission is one of the major factors contributing to Hong Kong's deteriorating air quality. Eco-driving, an economically, ecologically and environmentally sound driving style, is an effective way to reduce emission, and at the same time, allows cost saving on fuel."

"Specially designed for professional drivers, vehicle owners and fleet operation managers, the seminars will introduce environmentally-friendly ways of driving on the road. Participants will also be able to acquire useful knowledge on reducing vehicle exhaust through appropriate maintenance methods," Mr Tsang said.

The Eco-driving Seminars will be held on 13, 15 and 18 September 2006 at the Lecture Theatre of HKPC and admission is free.

Each seminar will cover the concept and skills of eco-driving, related maintenance, fuel saving, reduction of emissions and driving costs, as well as regulations on emissions.
