HKPC Organizes Seminar for SMEs on Effective Use of ERP Business Enhancement Tools

Over 100 representatives from local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) attended a seminar organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and Microsoft Hong Kong Limited (Microsoft) today (12 May 2006) to obtain the latest updates on the effective use of ERP business enhancement tools.

Under the theme of "Increase Competitiveness Through Effective Use of ERP Business Enhancement Tools", the Seminar was the latest event under the "Productivity Plus Initiative" launched by HKPC and Microsoft to help local trading companies meet new business imperatives.

Mr Frank Leung, General Manager (Electronics Product Innovation) of HKPC, said, "The effective application of IT is the key to product enhancement, quality improvement and quick response to market change."

"Today's Seminar aims to enhance the competitiveness of local trading SMEs by providing them with access to Microsoft technologies and partner ecosystem, addressing the historical barriers of bulky and cost-prohibitive customized technology solutions," he said.

"The Seminar also covers means of utilizing EPR business enhancement tools to monitor business activities, and manage company resources and information, improving operational efficiency and business performance," Mr Leung added.

According to Mr Leung, Microsoft and HKPC launched the "Productivity Plus Initiative" in December 2005 to support the development of the local manufacturing sector. The collaboration between the two parties focuses on five key areas – accelerating industry competitiveness, joint development of the local IT industry, improved SME productivity through better IT deployment and awareness, Pan-Pearl River Delta business expansion for customers and ISVs, as well as intellectual property rights management.

"A series of Do-It-Yourself (DIY) training and seminar programmes addressing topics of IT application in industry will be held in the coming months, including the 'Manufacturing IT Solution Day 2006' to be held on 16 June 2006," Mr Leung said.

The Seminar is supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Association, The Hong Kong Shippers' Council and Hong Kong Chinese Importers' & Exporters' Association.
