HKPC Organizes Study Mission to Textiles Centre of China

To assist local manufacturers to capture business opportunities in the textiles and garment sector on the Mainland, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) will organize a study mission to Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, from 19 to 22 October 2006.

Mr Linus Wu, Senior Consultant (Textiles and Apparel) of HKPC, said, "Situated in the eastern Zhejiang Province, Shaoxing is a major textile manufacturing base on the Mainland, with an annual production volume of 490 million garments and 10 billion metres of printed and dyed fabrics. Its usage of synthetic fibres accounts for 25% of the national total. Shaoxing is also home to Asia's largest textile distribution centre, the China Light Textile City, with daily traffic exceeding 100,000 traders and the total transaction reached RMB 27.6 billion in 2005."

"Shaoxing also plays host to one of the Mainland's most important textile trade fairs – the annual China (Shaoxing) International Textile Expo," he said.

"Through this study mission, local manufacturers can keep abreast of the latest market trends and technologies in the Mainland's textiles and garment industry. Participants will visit local enterprises, the Shaoxing Textiles Technology Centre, the China Light Textile City and the 7th China (Shaoxing) International Textile Expo, as well as meet local officials and industry representatives," he said.
