Hong Kong and Shenzhen Companies Explore Collaboration Opportunities at Animation Forum and Trade Fair in Shenzhen

More than 150 industry practitioners from the digital entertainment sectors in Shenzhen and Hong Kong attended the "Forum on Shenzhen-Hong Kong Animation Industry: Environment, Development and Cooperation" jointly organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), Shenzhen Science & Industry Park Corporation, and Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Ltd at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre today (18 May 2006). The Forum is one of the events under the China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industry Fair (ICIF).

By fostering collaboration and providing an information platform for the animation industries in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, the Forum presented the latest development of the industry, including market opportunities in the Mainland, Hong Kong's IT infrastructure, as well as the latest trends in digital production.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr Tang Jie, Secretary-General of Shenzhen Municipal People's Government and Mr Edmund Sung, Director (Business Productivity) of HKPC. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Sung said, "Advancement in Internet and information technologies has opened up new business horizons for the digital entertainment sectors. Not only are opportunities abound in motion pictures, television and other multi-media productions, the licensing of digital entertainment characters for adoption in garments and toys designs has also offered a window of opportunities for industry players."

Highlighting the competitive advantages of the digital entertainment industries in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, Mr Sung said, "As the hub of information technology and high technology in the Mainland, Shenzhen has ample supply of experts and entrepreneurs, while Hong Kong has a sophisticated IT infrastructure, a well-developed digital entertainment industry, and a stringent intellectual property management regime. The collaboration between Hong Kong and Shenzhen will create a win-win situation for industry players in tapping the new business opportunities."

Held from 18 to 21 May 2006 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre, the ICIF is the only state-level cultural industry fair in China jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture of the PRC, State Administration of Radio, Film and Television of the PRC, General Administration of Press and Publication of the PRC, Guangdong Provincial People's Government, and Shenzhen Municipal People's Government.
