Hong Kong Illustrators Inspired by

Hong Kong's illustrators and commercial art designers were able to broaden their horizons and gain inspiration for both creative and business ideas from a ten-month "i.mission" Programme organized by the Hong Kong Society of Illustrators (HKSI).

With the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) as the implementation organization, the "i.mission - Professional Exchange and Enhancement Programme on Creative Commercial Arts and Design in Hong Kong" was held from June 2005 to April 2006. The Programme comprised a study mission to the USA, an industry forum, and training workshops in Hong Kong.

According to Ms Miranda Yiu, Chairman of HKSI, "i.mission" provided an opportunity for participants to gain insight into the global trends, techniques, management skills, copyright issues and challenges in the illustration field. "To stay competitive, local illustrators need to develop their personal style, as well as explore cross-sector collaboration, especially with the booming multi-media industries," she said.

Under the "i.mission" Programme, a study mission to San Francisco was organized in July 2005 where the participants attended a two-day Illustration Conference (ICON4), and visited leading companies in the field. Between October and December 2005, an industry forum and four workshops were held in Hong Kong and attended by over 500 and 120 local professionals respectively.

"As a follow up to the 'i.mission' Programme, we are planning other activities in the coming months, including the publication of a Hong Kong illustrators' directory and an overseas study mission," Ms Yiu added.

The Programme was funded by the Professional Services Development Assistance Scheme (PSDAS) of the HKSAR Government. For further information on the Programme, please contact HKPC's Ms Patricia Chun at (852) 2788 5535 or e-mail to patricia@hkpc.org.
